Intrigued, Biswas took a leave of absence to cofound Meraki Networks in Mountain View, CA, and create wireless mesh networks that would link people to the Internet cheaply. Here’s how a Meraki network works: a user plugs a router into a broadband Internet connection; that person’s neighbors stick routers to their windows, and a mesh network of up to hundreds of people forms automatically. Users can give away or sell Internet access to their neighbors. There are already Meraki-based networks in 25 countries, from Slovakia to Venezuela, serving more than 15,000 users.

Finalists for the 2008 Women 2.0 Business Plan Competition
Launching a pioneering business to fulfill the unmet demands of the marketplace fits Bill’s way of
doing things perfectly. In 1998, when Internet technology was still in its relative infancy, Bill
championed one of the first efforts to stream video, both live and on-demand, via the Internet with
the award-winning ComedyNet.com. He helped create and launch E! Entertainment Television at
a time when no one thought there would be enough interest for a cable channel dedicated to
entertainment news. Bill preceded that success with another premiere brand—the NFL on ESPN.
Bill is also a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of senior management experience with
global media companies, including HBO, ESPN, Space Media, and American Interactive Media.
But his passion is for developing cutting-edge websites and media companies that break through
and flourish in today’s explosive digital environment.

Rewards program and the launch of the W Hotel brand. Hope’s consumer insights and innovative
marketing, combined with her passion for animals, give her an exceptional understanding of the
powerful emotions that connect pet owners and pets. From global branding (repositioning and
growing the MSBNC brand and serving as the global knowledge director on Kellogg’s) to
launching new products (for both Jack Daniel’s and Diageo), she has demonstrated a unique
